(E) Sweet leaves (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) are one of the plants
that contain active flavonoid compounds that have the potential as
antioxidants. Based on that, this research was conducted to identify
the class of secondary metabolites from simplicia, determine the effect
of toxicity and antioxidant activity from sweet leaf extract. Sweet
leaves were extracted by kinetic maseration using 96% ethanol
solvent, the thick extract were obtained to test the antioxidant activity
by using reducing free radicals method and testing the toxicity by
using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). The results of simplicia
phytocemical screening showed the presence of flavonoids, saponins,
tannins, and steroids. The antioxidant activity test obtained extract that
is 214,23 ppm and vitamin C 5,73 ppm. The toxicity test using BSLT
method was obtained 151,95 ppm. It was concluded that 96% ethanol
extract of sweet leaf had toxicity and antioxidant effects.
